Troubleshooting
Practical checks for backpressure, retention drift, peak shape and contamination.
High backpressure
Check solvent filters, degassing, tubing, injector, frits and the guard column. Bypass components one at a time to isolate the restriction before acting on the analytical column.
Retention drift
Confirm mobile-phase preparation, temperature stability, equilibration, ionic-form compatibility and sample matrix consistency.
Broad or split peaks
Inspect injection solvent strength, sample overload, extra-column volume, dead volume, fittings, contamination and detector settings.
Poor resolution
Verify the installed part number, ionic form, cross-link family, column direction, temperature control and method parameters.
Ghost peaks and baseline drift
Run blanks, inspect wash solvents and carryover, evaluate detector stability, and replace contaminated mobile phase or guard material as appropriate.
Cleaning and storage
Use only procedures supported for the selected Benson ionic form. Avoid improvised cleaning sequences that may change resin form or damage the packing.
